First reactions and observations
- First Undav, now Leweling. Stuttgart’s attackers today seem to be cooking for Germany. What does Sebastian Hoeneß feed them with? Well, we’ll find out soon enough: they visit Bayern Munich this Saturday.
- This game was a masterclass from Julian Nagelsmann. Despite missing many first-team players, Germany barely allowed the Netherlands a shot on goal. The final score may have been 1-0, but the performance was far more dominant than the lack of goals would suggest.
- Despite spending much of the match as a spectator, Oliver Baumann’s key save from Xavi’s long-range shot in the final ten minutes of the match edged him ahead of Alex Nübel’s performance on Friday. Looks like Germany has a new number 1.
Full time: Germany 1-0 Netherlands.
63′ – GOOOOOOOOOOAL! Leweling brings the score to 1-0! Finally!
45′ — The second half is underway! Andrich was replaced by Wirtz.
Half time: Germany 0-0 Netherlands.
5′ — NOOOOOO! Leweling’s goal is ruled offside by VAR.
To start up: We are on our way!
One hour before kick-off: We have queues! New faces in midfield with Angelo Stiller and Aleksandar Pavlović, while Deniz Undav was replaced by Leweling. Does Nagelsmann cook? Only time will tell.
Germany are therefore back at the Allianz Arena to face the Netherlands, with a long list of injuries to their name. The last time these two teams met, it ended 2-2 at the Amsterdam Arena, with the Germans perhaps feeling they could have won. Well, if that’s the case, today is the right time to prove it: at home, in front of the Munich crowd, with 75,000 local fans cheering the team on.
