It was all Panathinaikos for the first five minutes of the match.
Then it was all Chelsea for the next 85 minutes, plus injury time.
In the first half, much of this control was of the dominant but not directly threatening variety, but we opened the scoring midway with Mudryk setting up Félix for an easy strike. We could have had more, but we lacked the true killer instinct to make it happen.
No such lapses in the second half however, with a three-goal burst in the first 15 minutes of the period quickly ending the contest. Felix got another, Mudryk also got a well-deserved one and Nkunku converted a penalty for good measure.
Both teams started to make changes and the home side had a consolation, but the result was never threatened or in doubt.
Carefree.
- Not quite a complete B team, with Cucurella and Enzo up front: Cucu at left-back, with Veiga sliding to centre-back, just as he did for Portugal last time out.
- Enzo captain, then Disasi
- No debuts for Rak-Sakyi or Mheuka, but plenty of minutes from George and Guiu, plus an outing for Chukwuemeka
- Almost made it without a yellow until Disasi’s late infraction
- Afterwards : Newcastle at home in the league, then Newcastle away in the League Cup
- KTBFFH
