Neelam Kothari got emotional while talking about the failure of her first marriage. For those who don’t know, Neelam got married to British businessman Rishi Sethia in 2000. Although Neelam has kept quiet about the divorce, she spoke about the issues surrounding the marriage in an episode of the season 3 of Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives. The actress revealed that she was asked to change several things, including her name.

“I was told to wear Indian clothes, give up non-vegetarian products and alcohol. Everything suited me. I was also asked to change my name, and I did that too. A lot of people do that. But change your identity? This is something I didn’t agree with. I reached a point where I asked myself, “How can I allow this?” There were many times when I was in a supermarket or having lunch, and someone would come up to me and ask, “Are you Neelam the actress?” And I had to say, ‘No, I’m not Neelam,'” the actress recalls.

Neelam was a popular name in the 1990s. She has worked with several stars including Govinda. However, his sudden demise broke many hearts. After her divorce from Rishi, Neelam returned to India and eventually got married to Sameer Soni. She is also trying to make a comeback on the big screen.

Meanwhile, Neelam also revealed that her daughter Ahana also asked her about her divorce, which left Neelam in shock. “I was coming back from work and Ahana was with her friends. Normally they are always jumping, screaming and screaming. But this time there was absolute silence,” she said.

“Ahana came to me and said, ‘Mom, you never told me you were divorced.’ I just died. I was perplexed. I had no words. I said to Ahana, “First of all, how do you know?
